Dairy processors have achieved a 15 percent reduction in relative water consumption since 2008, Dairy UK has revealed in its 2015 Dairy Roadmap. In 2012, 78 percent of farmers were implementing water efficiency methods. Of these, 30 percent were collecting rain water, 94 percent reusing water from a plate cooler and 53 percent have diversified water supplies using a borehole. The report outlines that the industry is continuing to make improvements and encouraging further measures to be taken, which fit in line with its 2020 targets. The Dairy Roadmap is a supply chain initiative that represents the UK dairy industry’s commitment to reduce its environmental footprint. The taskforce is made up of 25 organisations from across the UK dairy industry.
