Australia: Sydney Water wins infrastructure award

Sydney Water has won the Operator and Service Provider Excellence Award at the Infrastructure Australia Awards for its long-term investment in Integrated, Instrumentation, Controls, Automation and Telemetry System (IICATS) Control System. To date, the project has delivered US$384 million in capital and operating expenditure savings with significant future savings expected with new iterations and ongoing improvements. Each upgrade has improved Sydney Water’s ability to enhance service levels and decisionmaking. Since 1994 Sydney Water has been operating the control system that monitors and automatically controls the operation of water and wastewater network assets, such as water pumping stations, reservoirs, valves and sewage pumping stations.
